The look of pine children’s furniture is timeless, and thank goodness because of all of the expenses that goes with raising a child. If you have to continually replace cheap furniture, are you really saving any money at all? The answer is no, you are not. Before you buy any furniture for your children, consider how long they will be using it as well as their previous history with other items that they own.
If you have ever walked in on your little one just as he or she leaps from the dresser to the bed or pole vaults over the end of the bed, the thought of buying new furniture probably makes you cringe. Children are notoriously hard on their furniture. They chew on things, mark on them with crayon, try to peel off paint and worse. They may try to pound the furniture every time they are sent to their room to think about what they have done. Thankfully, pine furniture is durable and can handle practically anything that a child can hand out. You can refinish the furniture to mask any imperfections as well as to suit the taste of the next child in line for it, another amazing advantage of pine and other wooden furniture types.
Children are only small for a very short time. If you buy them one of the little plastic race car beds or the little princess bed they wanted so badly, you might find that they will either fall out of love with it or grow out of it sooner than you would have hoped for the price. Then you are stuck with a bed that your child either hates or cannot fit in plus a mattress that will not work in a larger bed. Instead of making that short term stop, it might be a far better idea to just go from crib to twin bed, using pillows to protect your child if you are worried about rolling in the night.
For the time that they are children, they will have to deal with the furniture that you buy for them. When they are older and move out or when they can afford it, they can buy their own, but until that day, you don’t want to have to continually be replacing cheaper made furniture. And, once they do move away once and for all, you can use pine children’s furniture as the furniture in the guest room with very little effort.
